MalERA
The Malaria Eradication Research Agenda (malERA) is a consultative initiative aimed at identifying current knowledge gaps and new tools needed for malaria eradication. Its overall purpose is to develop a multidisciplinary global research and development (R&D) agenda that can be actionable by research and public health agencies and sponsors. MalERA does not aim to prescribe the activities of individual organizations, but rather to foster collaboration among institutions and research areas and to gain consensus on directions for malaria R&D, with eradication as the ultimate goal. The output of this process will be a White Paper that will propose how current malaria R&D should change with the goal of global eradication.
The process of forming the agenda will be as inclusive and interdisciplinary as possible, and will gather input from the malaria community as well as other disease areas. It will be developed from the work of seven Consultative Groups, which focus on different disciplinary sectors of malaria control. Each group will produce working papers and contribute to the elaboration of the White Paper. The Stakeholder Commons webpage will constitute a public forum for wider participation in the process of defining the R&D agenda.
MalERA is a natural continuation of the Global Malaria Action Plan launched in September 2008 by the Roll Back Malaria initiative, from which it has received endorsement and support.
